Research
B. Bromm started in 1965 at Kiel University with investigations on Na-inward rectification in membranes of nerve and muscle causing repetitive firing, decisive in cns information uptake and processing. Together with Bernhard Frankenhaeuser, Stockholm, he published two papers in this field. In Hamburg he used the narrow contacts with clinical colleagues and investigated methods to measure pain in man, in particular by related late and ultralate brain potentials in multilead EEG and MEG (in cooperation with Phillips, Hamburg). He and his department developed ultra-short laser stimulation in man as well as intracutaneously applied electrical stimuli to quantify analgesic effets.
